The Old Lady Wristband
Celebrate your love for the Italian soap opera that is the Bianconeri and their first European crown.
MATCH STORY
A dominant force in Italian football for decades, success on the European stage had dramatically evaded Turin’s footballing behemoths… that is until 1983/84 season. Not long after claiming their 21st league title, the “Old Lady” of Italian football twice lifted continental trophies in the Cup Winners Cup and Supercup. So it was hardly surprising when they rode that fine run of form all to the following season’s European Cup final, too. Awaiting them at Belgium’s Heysel Stadium were holders Liverpool, in search of their fifth title in nine seasons. The match itself was considered a great; arguably one of the best European Cup finals to that point. But the outcome – a 1-0 win to the Bianconeri courtesy of Michel Platini penalty — would be overshadowed by tragedy in the stands. Spurred on by hooliganism, 39 supporters lost their lives when a wall collapsed in the stadium before the match.
DESIGN STORY
The match side of the wristband is set over a pink background that is inspired by the club’s frequent secondary colors and features black and white faded lines meant to commemorate the lives lost at Heysel. On the reverse, a design inspired by the famous black and white stripes of Zebras of Turin.
