Cult of the Log Slab Wristband
Represent the pride of Portland by remembering the first major soccer trophy hoisted by a side from the Rose City.
MATCH STORY
After escaping a penalty shootout in the knockout round, knocking off a Cascadian rival in the conference semifinals, and downing the top seed in the conference final, Portland’s 2015 playoffs were already a success — especially considering they hadn’t qualified for them the season before. But a quick start and a bit of fortune helped elevate that success to glory. It started with Diego Valeri capitalizing on a goalkeeper mistake just 27 seconds into the match, registering the fastest goal in cup history. Then just six minutes later, following the referees missing a ball that had rolled out of bounds, Rodney Wallace added a second for the visitors. And though hosts Columbus pulled one back in the 18th minute, Portland held on to their lead through the final whistle to raise their first trophy.
DESIGN STORY
The match side of the wristband takes its inspiration from Portland’s famed post-goal tradition, where a slab of a log is carved off via chainsaw in the stadium. The reverse takes inspiration from the city’s mountainous, tree-covered surroundings.
